The Sindh government contended that the LNG imported from Qatar will reach Punjab through pipelines from Port Qasim, which will be used by three independent power producers (IPPs) for power generation.

“The constitution suggests that a province from where gas is obtained has more right on its royalty,” asserted the provincial government. “It (constitution) does not differentiate between gas obtained from natural resources or imported from other country.”

Sources said that the Punjab government has started pondering over different options whether to accept or reject demand by Sindh.

The Sindh government says if its demands were not met, then it could approach the court moving it to stay the LNG import, while the matter can also be taken up with the Council of Common Interests (CCI).
