It’s routine for the provincial government to impose a ban on swimming at sea spots on occasion of Eid, and other festivities when the flow of visitors is usually high.

District South Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Salahuddin, had said at that time that Section 144 was imposed for 30 days. “This is a cognisable offence and whosoever violates it, is arrested and presented before the magistrate,” he said, adding that bathing in the sea is prohibited.

He said sometimes it gets difficult to control a big crowd so the police stop visitors from going to the beaches.

Last year in September, Sindh Home Department had imposed ban on swimming at beaches of Karachi for 30 days.

This should be noted that over 30 picnickers drowned in rough seas of Karachi during the Eid holidays in 2014.
