Sindh govt declares public holiday on Dec 27

KARACHI: The government of Sindh has announced a public holiday across the province on Tuesday, December 27 on account of the death anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, ARY News reported.

The provincial government issued a notification on Friday according to which all offices, autonomous or semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils working under the Sindh government will remain closed on December 27.

“The Government of Sindh is pleased to declare 27th December, 2016 (Tuesday) as Public Holiday throughout the province of Sindh on the occasion of Shahadat (martydom) of Mohtrama Benazir Bhutto Shaheed,” reads the statement.

The former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a gun and suicide bomb attack after addressing an election rally in Rawalpindi in 2007, weeks after returning from self-imposed exile.

The PPP will organise a function to commemorate the anniversary in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, district Larkana which is expected to be addressed by former president Asif Ali Zardari.
