ISLAMABAD: Sindh’s Member has been notified as the Chairman Indus River System Authority (IRSA) for one year, ARY News reported on Monday.
Sindh’s Member IRSA, Zahid Junejo has taken charge and will work as chairman for a period of one years, as per the notification.
It is to be mentioned here that the IRSA had recently decided to distribute available river water among the provinces under disputed three-tier formula during the ongoing Rabi season amid Sindh’s reservations.
The Sindh government had raised objections over the water distribution formula of the IRSA.
Sindh Irrigation Department in a letter to the IRSA had demanded the authority to stop providing river water to Chashma-Jhelum and Taunsa-Punjnad link canals.
Kotri Barrage is the last barrage in the downstream and unanimous deduction formula of the river water for all barrages is unjust and incomprehensible, Sindh irrigation department wrote.
Sindh had also demanded in August to change the Chairman Indus River System Authority (IRSA), the body responsible for water distribution among the federating units.
The demand was made by Adviser to chief minister Sindh on Agriculture, Manzoor Wassan over reservations on water distribution.
Wassan said that the incumbent chairman was utterly failed in providing due share of river water to Sindh.
