Sindh reports 615 dengue fever cases in December

KARACHI: Sindh has recorded 615 dengue fever cases in December so far, provincial health department said in a report on the viral disease.

As per the statistics of dengue cases from December 01 to 19, released by the Sindh Health Department on Tuesday, 615 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever were reported in the province.

The cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever are declining in the province owing to plunging minimum temperature in winter weather conditions.

In Karachi’s District Central 126 cases of dengue fever reported, while in District East 124 cases, District South 67 cases, District Korangi 71 cases, in the city’s West district, 43 cases and 35 cases were reported in Malir district, according to the health department report.

Moreover, in Hyderabad 75 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever reported in the period, while in Matiari district five cases and Khairpur district two dengue cases were reported, health department stated.

Dengue fever claimed 15 lives in Sindh in the first 10 months of this year, Sindh health department officials earlier said in a report.

As many as 1,291 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever had been reported in October in Sindh.

The province had recorded 603 dengue cases in September, provincial health department said.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that has rapidly spread in recent years around the world.

These mosquitoes are also vectors of chikungunya, yellow fever and Zika viruses. Dengue is widespread throughout the tropics, with local variations in risk influenced by rainfall, temperature, relative humidity and unplanned rapid urbanization.
