Sindh to form special force for safety of witnesses, CPEC

According to details, Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah and Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad jointly presided the meeting of apex committee at the CM House. The meeting was attended by Corps Commander Karachi Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, DG Rangers Maj Gen Bilal Akbar, chief secretary Sindh, IG Sindh, representatives from the intelligence agencies and officials of the SIndh Home Department.

It was decided that a special force comprising of 200 personnel and safe houses will be established for the safety of witnesses.

The meeting also approved formation of a force consisting of 2000 retired military men for CPEC.

Officials told the meeting that ten more special courts will soon start functioning in the province, while the corps commander Karachi has ensured the provision of space and security for these courts.

“In Sindh, 25 more cases have been referred to special courts, out of which the trial of three cases has begun,” they briefed. “However, the case pertaining to the murder of JUI-F leader Khalid Mehmood Soomro could not be forwarded following a stay by the High Court.”

During the meeting, the IG Sindh noted police needs, which the corps commander promised to fulfill.
