RAWALPINDI: In the latest incident of cross-border firing, two people, including a six-year-old girl, were injured when Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing from across the border at the restive Line of Control (LoC).

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, said Indian forces targeted urban population near Rawla Poonch Crossing point, which resulted in injuries to six-year-old, Aeqa and 45-year old Ramzan.

It said the Pakistan military responded befittingly, silencing the Indian guns.

The ISPR said India cannot trample the freedom struggle of Kashmiris by targeting innocent citizens.

On Oct 10, as a gesture of goodwill and in continuation of Pakistan Army’s efforts to maintain peace and tranquility along the LOC, the army had handed over a woman to the Indian authorities.

Azmat Jan wife of Muhammad Shakeel, of Indian Occupied Kashmir, who inadvertently crossed over LoC at Chirikot Sector, has been returned to IOK today at Rawala-Poonch crossing point on humanitarian grounds, the ISPR had said in a statement.

In 2017, Indian forces have carried out 873 ceasefire violations along the LoC and Working Boundary resulting in the martyrdom of 39 innocent civilians and injuries to 144 people.
