KARACHI: The suspected suicide bomber, who allegedly attacked beleaguered police officer Rao Anwar earlier this month in a botched attempt, has been identified as 34-year-old Gul Saeed, ARY News reported on Saturday.

The controversial attack took place on January 16, 2018 in which the suspended SSP Malir had survived and two other attackers were killed in retaliatory firing by policemen in Karachi.

Anwar then claimed that the suicide attacker blew himself near the convoy and two of his accomplices were shot dead in gun battle with police.

However, the identity of other two alleged assailants could not be established so far.

According to the heirs of the deceased, Gul Saeed was linked with a transport company as a passenger bus driver.

Saeed’s brother told media that the deceased was a driver on Karachi-Peshawar route and used to stay away from home owing to his profession. He alleged that his brother was killed in a ‘fake’ encounter.

He further said the family came to know about Saeed’s death days after the incident when he did not return to home. The deceased was resident of Orangi Town area in Karachi.
