Solar-powered umbrella invented for Hajj pilgrims

The Saudi-Palestinian company Knowledge-Base is currently looking for investors for its multipurpose ‘smart umbrella’, which includes a GPS, a fan, and three USB ports.

The smart umbrella, is named “Kafya,” and is a solar-powered umbrella that will convert sun rays into electricity, turning the traditional umbrella into technology-inspired gadget.

With hajj season just around the corner, many people are getting ready for the spiritual journey. Teh company which made the equipment believes their invention will help beat the heat during the Holy Muslim ritual.

The power can then be used to turn on the built-in flashlight, a fan and a GPS system. The umbrella also includes three USB ports at the bottom of the handle, to charge phones and laptops.

According to Reuters, the umbrella is founded by Manal Dandis and Saudi scientist Kamel Badaw and it is currently under production. The duo have started creating prototypes and are working to get their invention patented, according to Reuters.
