Special court freezes Musharraf’s bank accounts, confiscates property

A three-member bench of the special court passed the orders after the former president failed to appear before the court despite repeated notices.

Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel was heading the bench hearing the high-profile case.

Pervez Musharraf’s counsel said during the hearing that his client was currently undergoing a treatment abroad and so could not travel to appear before the court.

The counsel’s request to record Musharraf’s statement through a video call Skype was also turned down by the bench.

Meanwhile, the special court adjourned the hearing of the case until Pervez Musharraf is arrested or he surrenders.

Former president, Musharraf had left Pakistan on March 18; following Supreme Court upheld the Sindh High Court (SHC) decision to remove his name from the exit control list (ECL).

Earlier, the court had seized the surety bonds submitted by Musharraf’s guarantor, Rashid Qureshi, ordering him to submit an amount of Rs2.5 million as a security deposit to the Registrar of the special court.
