QUETTA: The divisional bench of Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Friday was failed to reach on a unanimous decision on a bail plea filed by Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Majeed Achakzai in the hit-and-run case, ARY News reported.
The two-judge bench comprising Justice Hashim Kakar and Justice Muhammad Noor Meskanzai issued a split verdict, on the plea.
Justice Hashim Kakar granted bail to accused against the surety bond of Rs200,000. However, Justice M. Noor Meskanzai rejected Achakzai’s bail plea in the fatal vehicular accident case.
Following the split decision, the plea has been sent to a referee judge, Justice Muhammad Ejaz Swati.
Majeed Achakzai, who fatally ran over a traffic sub-inspector on June 20, filed a bail plea in the BHC. He is currently in police custody in the two cases, another relating to attempted murder in 1992.
He was arrested on June 24 for killing a traffic sergeant by running his vehicle over him at the GPO Chowk in Quetta. Later, he was booked yet in another case pertaining to a kidnapping registered at the Satellite Town police station back in 2009.
According to police, Traffic Sergeant Attaullah died after hit by a rashly driven land cruiser on June 20 while he was performing his duty at the GPO Chowk on Zarghoon Road.
It merits to mention here that Majeed Achakzai is also a close relative of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai. He was elected from the PB-13 constituency in Qilla Abdullah.
