DUBAI: Several Sri Lankan players have indicated reluctance to visit Pakistan for the third and final Twenty20 (T20) match against Pakistan at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, scheduled to be held on October 29, an international cricket website reported.

As many as 40 contracted players of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have signed a letter and submitted to the board, expressing their concerns over touring Pakistan on the security ground.

They have requested to the cricket board in a letter to consider a change in venue of the third T20 match.

“[Although] the players have not definitively ruled out traveling to Lahore, the mood in the dressing room is one of firm objection,” the sports website quoted a Sri Lankan player as saying.

On the other hand, SLC officials have been very keen on the team’s travelling to Pakistan. “SLC will have a quick chat to the players very soon. We don’t intend to disturb them in middle of a series, but we are left with no option but to address the issue. The ICC will also hold a meeting with the players on Saturday to brief them about the security situation in Lahore,” the website reported, citing an SLC source.

Earlier this year, the country marked the return of international cricket after successfully hosting the Independence Cup against a World XI and PSL final in Lahore following the 2009 attack on Sri Lanka team.
