Stability of institutions, not personalities crucial for democracy: Siraj

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Siraj-ul-Haq on Monday said stability of institutions was more important than individual persons for the sake of democracy in the country, ARY News reported.

“The political parties doing politics in the name of clans, linguists and personalities are real impediments before democracy,” he said while talking to a JI delegation from central Punjab led by Ameer-ul-Azeem in Mansoorah.

He said the parties having tyrannical thought had sabotaged democracy. He said for the sake of democratic stability there was need to bring democracy in political parties. “We will have to shun linguistic and ethnic biases for national solidarity.”

Siraj lambasted dynastic politics running through several generations and said the JI had this honor that it had strong democracy in it.

He said after going through strong democratic process a leader was elected in the JI. “A district-level leader is elected every two years, a provincial-level leader every three year and a central leader is elected every five year in the party.”

The JI chief said though Islamic sections were included in the Constitution, however implementation on them had remained a distant dream. He said they would not let the conspiracy of removing Islamic identity of Pakistan succeed, he said.

Earlier in a statement, Siraj-ul-Haq said the country desperately needed Islamic revolution.

“We will make Pakistan an ideological and Islamic country. We will bring the change from our personal self,” he said.

He said Pakistan’s actual assets were youths and not the nuclear arsenal. He said Pakistan’s over 65 percent of population was young.
