All stakeholders will be taken into confidence over dams issue, says PM

ISLAMABAD: Terming the construction of dams in the country a ‘national issue’, Prime Minister Imran Khan has said on Friday that all stakeholders will be taken into confidence over the matter.

This he said while talking to Federal Minster for Water Resources Faisal Vawda and Chairman WAPDA, Muzamiil Hussain, who called him on, in Islamabad today.

Prime minister was apprised about construction of dams and other projects being carried out by the water resources ministry to address water scarcity problem.

Urging the nation to play its role for construction of dams in the country, the premier said government is determined to resolve water scarcity problem which is threatening our future and vowed to take all stakeholders on the board.

“Donation by overseas Pakistanis into dam funds is a positive sign,” the prime minister added.

Highlighting the importance of construction of the dams in the country, he said dams will bring prosperity in the country, as the water reservoirs will also add to electricity generation.

The fundraising for the construction of Diamer and Basha dams is going with full swing as donations of over Rs 8 billion has been collected so far.

According to the website of Supreme Court of Pakistan, the current status of dam funds’ account stands at Rs: 8,412,407,682.

Donate for dam fund

All the commercial and micro-finance banks, and field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation have opened the Fund account to receive donations in cash, and through cheques, pay orders and demand drafts at all their branches across the country.

The donors can also make online donations to the Fund through internet banking, automatic teller machines (ATM) and other alternate delivery channels (ADC) using IBAN of their respective bank. The banks have sent the IBANs of the Fund account to their clients through SMS alerts, while the bank-wise list of IBANs is also available at the SBP’s web page.

Citizens can also donate Rs10 to the CJP’s dam fund by typing “dam” and sending the SMS to 8000 which will deduct the amount from the phone’s credit.
