WASHINGTON: As Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is set to form a new government in Pakistan, the United States of America is looking forward to collaborate with the new regime in furthering the goals of security and peace in South Asia.
A State Department’s spokesperson said “As Pakistan’s elected leaders form a new government, the United States will look for opportunities to work with them to advance our goals of security, stability, and prosperity in South Asia.”
Referring to the US strategy for South Asia and issue of peace talks in Afghanistan, the US official asserted that Washington intends to maintain close relations with Islamabad and will be working alongside the new government.
China also stated that it is ready to work with the new Pakistani government and hopes that the country will maintain political and social stability and focus on development.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said that China was pleased to see that the country has held a successful election, and sincerely hope that it will maintain political and social stability and focus on national development.
He said China-Pakistan friendship receives heartfelt support and acclamation, the elections results will further strengthen the relations between both countries. “Whatever the result of the election is, it won’t affect the development of China-Pakistan relations,” he stated.
He further said that China is ready to work with the new government for greater progress in the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.
The election commission has so far received results of 230 National Assembly seats while it also got results of 500 provincial assemblies’ seats of the four provinces.
Out of the received results of 230 National Assembly seats, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has bagged 110 seats in the National Assembly. Whereas, the formerly governing Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) is trailing behind it with 63 seats, followed by the PPP which has won 42 seats.
