Law said he was unavailable during Pakistan’s upcoming tour of England and would not be able to join the team immediately. He also said that he was interested as a consultant despite applying for the coaching position.

Law was the first choice for coach by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He played one Test and 54 ODIs and was the most successful domestic captain after winning five titles for Sheffield, and was the leading scorer for Queensland. He was also the head coach for Bangladesh from 2011-2012, and assistant coach for Sri Lanka as well.

The PCB will now have to select between Mickey Arthur, Dean Jones and Andy Moles. Earlier, former England coach Peter Moores had also turned down the role.  Moles is now seen as the favorite now as several members of the PCB have expressed reservations over Dean Jones.

Mickey Arthur was the head coach of Australia but was sacked after the team crashed out of the Champions trophy in 2013. Previously, he coached South Africa from 2005 to 2010.

As the search continues, the hurdles caused in the appointment of the new coach has seriously affected Pakistan preparations for the England tour. The team has also slipped to ninth position in the recent ODI rankings released by the ICC.
