ISLAMABAD: Condemning a recent deadly attack in Quetta that killed at least 61 people and injured dozens more, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar admitted that terror incidents only occur when there was a lapse of security or intelligence sharing.

The minister stressed on the need for putting security on constant high alert in the country in a bid to fight terrorism effectively.

“War against terrorism is not over and we must be alert to the possibility of any danger.”

“No one should be under any illusion that Pakistan was free from terrorists,” Nisar told the participants of the National Police Academy, Pakistan’s premier police training institution in Islamabad.

He said terrorists were now launching attacks from across the borders and so we had to remain ready.

“We are tired of following the coffins of our beloved ones as mourners,” the interior minister said, however, also added that those who blame the government for administrative incompetence should also look at the overall better security situation in the country.

“Pakistan needs heroes. Our security agencies are rendering sacrifices daily and you have to take forward their legacy and write a new chapter of valour,” he told a batch of 30 passing out ASPs (Assistant Superintendent of Police) including two lady officers.

The minister of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led (PML-N) government also, “Unfortunately, we remain on high alert for a week or ten days after an incident and return to routine. But we will have to remain more vigilant at every time.”

Nisar also announced that those behind the atrocious act of terrorism in Quetta would be dealt accordingly along with those who showed negligence when they had prior information of a possible terror attack in the province of Balochistan.

Pakistan has a history of terror attacks that mostly occurred due to poor intelligence sharing between the centre and provinces or at the provincial level.
