Abrar Murder Case: Five suspects sent on 14-day judicial remand

The mystery around the killing of Abrar in a dubious police encounter near Sindhi Muslim Society was solved on Monday when CTD Head Raja Umer Khattab confirmed that his department’s officials were involved in the incident.

The 21-year-old Abrar who was killed while a suspected robber Dilnawaz posing as a buyer was wounded on July 10 after CTD officials opened fired at them, said Khattab.

The victim’s father had lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against Dilnawaz and four unknown CTD officials.

Abrar, a resident of Jackson area in Karachi was killed and another man, Dilnawaz was injured after policemen in plain clothes fired at them in Karachi’s posh area of Sindhi Muslim Society on Sunday night.

According to police officials, Abrar had advertised his mobile phone for sale on a website. He was contacted by Dilnawaz and they agreed to meet on Sunday for a possible deal.

During their meeting, Dilnawaz remained in his car where he inspected Abrar’s mobile phone. When Abrar demanded money, the suspect tried to flee without paying. Abrar resisted and entered into his car in a bid to catch the fraudster.

At that instant, armed policemen from a nearby mobile van opened fire as a result Abrar was killed while Dilnawaz was injured.

Post-mortem report conducted at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre had revealed Abrar received three bullets.

“Abrar went to sell his mobile, but police declared him a dacoit in front of the hospital administration where he was later taken to,” claimed Naqash, a friend of the 21-year-old.

Earlier, friends and relatives of Abrar had accused the police officials of protecting the culprits behind his brutal killing.

Police official Raheem and two friends of Abrar were also taken into the fold of the investigation as the eye-witness.

The CTD Head has pledged that the officials found involved in the incident would be dealt accordingly.
