He said mainstream media was still under control of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), however there was no restriction on social media. Social media (baselessly) holds anybody accuse of anything.

“Nothing with the name of SSU Intelligence exists. There is only SSU (Special Security Unit – Sindh police),” he said, hinting at a CCTV video clip gone viral on social media with watermark of SSU Intelligence showing ‘suspects’ following Amjad Sabri’s vehicle, while addressing a press conference held after meeting to review cases of Amjad Sabri murder and Awais Shah abduction.

Siyal said some people publicized video clips in Sabri murder and Awais abduction cases as a cheap publicity stunt.

Without specifying, he said ‘some things’ should not be run in such cases. He also said he would not appear on media right after an incident to avoid hurdle in investigation.

The home minister also blamed the government of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for not upgrading police with advanced technology in eight years.

He blamed his own government for incompetency of Sindh police and said the police was standing at the same point where it was before 20 years and could not acquire advanced technology.

“The federal government is equally responsible for this state of Sindh police,” he said.

He said he had been facing problems in acquiring GSM locators, geo-fencing and access to NADRA family tree for police. He said only 20 percent of CCTV cameras are functional.
