Sunny Leone hits out at Bollywood superstars, says she's not 'sheltered' like them

Ever since her debut in Jim 2 opposite Randeep Hooda in 2012, former adult film actress Sunny Leone has tried to make a name for herself in the mainstream Indian film industry. Though she has been complimented on her sultry looks and has turned the heat on in a couple of item songs, such as Baby Doll, Leone’s movies have failed to gross big at the box office. This is partly due to the fact that Bollywood’s A-list actors, directors and producers have shied away from working with the actress, due to her past as an adult film actress.

Sunny Leone has also had to endure scathing remarks from her Bollywood contemporaries Celina Jaitley and Rakhi Sawant, with the former telling her to ‘Get lost from India’.

The former adult film actress explained in a recent interview that she was unlike such Bollywood celebs and her husband and she had ‘carved their own path’ in Bollywood.

“When you think of Disneyland (a theme park in the US), you think of Cinderella, and everything that’s right and amazing. Those fairy-tale characters can never do anything wrong; everything they do is bubble gums and roses. Although I love those characters, I am not even close to being like them. I am more in the space of Magic Mountain (another amusement park in the US), riding every roller coaster. It’s a nice way of saying that I am not one of those people (others from Bollywood), and, probably, in my life, I will never be someone who lives a sheltered life and works in big banner projects with big stars,” she said.

“Ek Paheli Leela did well. I am happy about that. As for my last film, I found the story funny, but it didn’t pan out that way. I am really confused after that film. I am so lost about how people handle a movie’s failure, which isn’t just a failure, but an epic failure (laughs).”
