ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday extended deadline for the accountability court to complete hearing of references against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for three weeks, ARY News reported.

A bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar extended the deadline till December 24.

“We heard cases till 7:00 in the past evening.” “You have that energy, which I don’t have,” the defence counsel responded to the chief justice in a lighter manner.

The chief justice warned the defence counsel of Nawaz Sharif, to avoid talking about boycott of the case.

This is the 8th extension the Supreme Court has granted to the accountability court for completion of the references against Sharif.

The Supreme Court earlier on granted 7th extension in the deadline of the case in November to the accountability court and on October 12 sixth extension to the court to complete the trial against former premier Nawaz Sharif in the two corruption references.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed three references against the Sharif family in the light of the July 28, 2017 verdict of the Supreme Court that disqualified Nawaz Sharif from the office of prime minister.

A reference pertaining to the Sharif family’s Avenfield properties in London has been decided while Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment references are pending for disposal.
