Supreme Court hears suo motu notice over Quetta carnage

Advocate Hamid Khan apprised the apex court over the events which unfolded on 8th August starting with the assassination of Balochistan High Court Bar Association president Bilal Kasi. A large number of lawyers gathered at the Civil Hospital to express solidarity over the murder where there were no security arrangements.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali asked the Inspector General (IG) Balochistan to apprise the court over the progress into the investigation of the carnage. However, the IG maintained that the investigation should remain classified until they are complete as it may jeopardise the case.

Justice Jamali expressed displeasure and said that the matter should not be complicated by submitting mundane reports, and asked the reason for the lapse in the provision of security. IG argued that since the attack took place inside the hospital, the responsibility lay with the management of the hospital.

Later, Advocate Hamid Khan, while speaking to the media alleged the IG and the Chief Secretary are attempting to hide the facts from the court to escape from negligence over the carnage.
