Suspect behind biggest robbery in Karachi arrested

KARACHI: Police on Friday claimed to have solved one of the largest robberies in the history of Karachi after arresting the main suspect, ARY News reported.

SSP East Irfan Baloch said the suspect named Husnain Raza alias Shabbir Mota was arrested after a tip-off from Gulistan-e-Jauhar last week. The 22-year-old suspect was affiliated with a political religious organisation.

The suspect had reportedly confessed during interrogation to a range or criminal activities including around a dozen incidents of target killing. Police have released the interrogation report of the suspect.

During the interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that he was behind one of the largest robberies in Karachi, when he along with his accomplices robbed a money-changer located on I.I. Chundrigar Road in 2013.

The suspect robbed 200,000 US dollars and Rs180 million from him. The money was divided among seven of his accomplices who abetted in the crime. No arrest of his accomplice has been made so far.

He also reportedly confessed to involvement in four incidents of target killing in 2011, five murders including a prayer leader in 2013, and two other murders in 2014.

SSP East said that the suspect targeted political opponents particularly those affiliated the Mutahida Quami Movement (MQM) and other personal disputes.
