Islamabad: The telecom sector has contributed revenue of more than Rs.866.23 billion to national exchequer in nine years which is a massive growth.
The contribution included General Sales Tax, activation tax, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA)’s deposits and other taxes.
As per latest figures issued by PTA, major contribution has been witnessed in 2011-12 when the sector contributed Rs133.40 billion revenues and accordingly, the GST collections from the sector spiked by 20% to reach Rs. 57.8 billion whereas Rs. 7.5 billion activation tax also collected.
The PTA deposits reached to Rs. 14.6 billion whereas other taxes are Rs. 53.5 billion.
The data showed an increase in revenue contribution with each passing year as it was Rs.38.4 billion in 2003-04 and touched Rs.133.4 billion marks last year.
