Tendulkar scored 74 in his farewell (200th) Test


MUMBAI: Indian legendary cricketer Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar in his farewell test at at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai scored 74 runs, his legions of fans were put through the emotional wringer throughout his inning, ARY News reported on Friday.

Tendulkar playing his 200th test, the only player in the history of test cricket to achieve the honor of playing 200 test matches was looking confident to add another century in his account when he resumed the inning at 38* but a slip catch from Darren Sammy cut short Tendulkar’s innings on 74 and stunned an expectant crowd into silence.

The mute-button was on only for a few moments though, as the crowd regained its voice to appreciatively roar Tendulkar off the field.

Tendulkar muttered a few words to himself, but as has been the case over virtually his entire career, he maintained his poise after being dismissed, acknowledging the adoring crowds as he trudged off.

Fans were in huge number at the second day of test to see Tendulkar, with painted faces and Indian flags.

Long queue outside the ground was witnessed on Friday morning to support Tendulkar’s final innings, while millions more watched on television.

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar had amassed 15,847 Test runs after the first innings of his final Test on Friday, which is about 2,500 more runs than any other cricketer.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting is at the second number with 13,378 runs in 168 test matches.
