KARACHI: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif on Monday said tension between two nuclear-armed neighboring countries would affect the whole region, ARY News reported.

“Our forces are absolutely ready to defend every inch of our land and on our part we have extreme goodwill for our neighbors,” he said while talking to ARY News.

He said though our forces are stretched on boundary unfortunately due to Afghanistan’s politics of supporting India, but our working boundaries are completely safe.

This should be noted that seven Pakistani soldiers were killed on Sunday night during cross-border firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmiri region, where tensions between India and Pakistan have surged in recent months.

“Seven soldiers embraced Shahadat (martyrdom) at the LoC in the Bhimber sector in cross-fire LoC violation by Indian troops late last night,” the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The federal minister said Pakistan has to obviously change policies according to the hostile behavior of our enemy.

He said any escalation of tension between the two nuclear-armed neighbors could prove catastrophic for the whole region. It would be unfortunate if such situation arises between the countries.

Asif also said India had failed to control freedom movement in Kashmir. He said Pakistan is using diplomatic and international forums to highlight the Indian belligerence.

He has urged the world community to take notice of Indian provocations against Pakistan.

He said over the last several months, India is heating up situation at the Line of Control (LoC) and the working boundary due to some internal compulsions.

The defense minister expressed concerns over the use of heavy weaponry by the Indian troops in the recent LoC firing. He said it is regrettable that extremist elements have come to power in India which could become a source of destruction not only for their own country but for the whole region.

He said the regional countries should be wary of the extremist tendencies of India.
