KARACHI: A three-day international music festival is scheduled to be held on 10th, 11th and 12th March 2017 at IVS at the Indus Valley School, Karachi.
Rumi World Music Festival is a humble effort by Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture to bring the music and poetry of the greatest Sufi poet of all times Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Balkhi Rumi also known reverentially as Mevlena/Maulana (our master) or Mevlevi/Maulawi (My Master).
Following his death, his followers founded the Mevlevi Order, also known as the Order of the Whirling Dervishes. Rumi’s influence transcends national borders and ethnic divisions and The Rumi World Music Festival aims to follow the path of pathless transcendence.
The Rumi World Music Festival will host many international, regional and local bands during the three day festival scheduled to be held on 10th, 11th and 12th March 2017 at IVS campus.
“Art and Music have always been providing ways for us to express ourselves and reflect our sentiments. When we look into ourselves we see lots of different levels of feeling, different levels of joy, different levels of kindness, and different levels of anger,” said a press release.
“Eastern music with its 300 scales allows many more avenues to express emotions than the more limited western scales. The most astonishing variation in scales is with soulful Sufi tunes that provide the listener with a complete range of emotions,” it added.
IVS has also planned extension of many peripheral activities of the festival like the art and craft bazar, music workshops, thematic scholarly sessions and panel discussions that will begin on the first day of the festival and continue till 12 March 2017.
