Three-member bench constituted for Musharraf treason trial

ISLAMABAD: A three-member special bench has been constituted to hear treason charges against former military ruler Gen. (Rtd) Pervez Musharraf for proclamation of emergency in year 2007, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

Justice Faisal Arab of Sindh High Court will head the bench. Justice Tahira Safdar of Balochistan High Court and Justice Mohammad Yawar Ali of Lahore High Court will be other members of the trial court, which will hear the case in Islamabad.

The Supreme Court had dispatched the names of five judges i.e. Justice Tahira Safdar of the Balochistan High Court, Justice Yahya Afridi of the Peshawar High Court, Justice Faisal Arab of the Sindh High Court, Justice Yawar Ali of the Lahore High Court and Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi of the Islamabad High Court to the Secretary Ministry of Law for constitution of a three judges bench.

The court enjoys exclusive jurisdiction and no other court could interfere in its trial proceedings. The federal government constitutes the special court to try a person under Article 6 of the Constitution.
