THARPARKAR: Three more children died due to malnutrition in Civil Hospital Mithi raising the death toll to 69 in current year, ARY News reported on Friday.
The deceased children were under treatment among 16 others in the hospital.
Sindh health department has confirmed at least 18 deaths in last one month due to malnutrition in drought-hit arid zone of Thar facing similar situation aggravated by the inattention of the government.
In recent years, Tharparkar district has remained in the media limelight for drought, malnutrition, and infant deaths.
Following the media reports, the government stepped in to address the issues by providing wheat bags to famine-hit families of the region.
However, misappropriation in distribution of wheat bags reported and many families were deprived of government’s relief resulting in escalation of infant mortality rate in the area.
