To Attend or Not: Zardari’s Iftar invite becomes dilemma for politicians

According to ARY News, Zardari’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has invited Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Awami National Party (ANP), PML-Q, PML-N, PTI and politicians from other political parties over an Iftar dinner at his Islamabad residence today.

PPP’s access to political parties being considered a practice of damage control after recent diatribe of the former president against the military.

Imran Khan led Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has decided not to attend the Iftar dinner in a party meeting.

Ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has yet to decide on the invitation of the former president. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had recently cancelled a scheduled meeting with Asif Ali Zardari after his his hardhitting statement.

According to the party sources, government ministers were opposed to attend the dinner, however, the matter has been left over the prime minister to decide.

Pakistan Muslim League-Q has also started consultations with party leaders whether to attend or not the Iftar dinner.
