According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed chaired the 217th Corps Commanders Conference at the General Headquarters (GHQ).

The conference reviewed the country’s internal security situation, fencing on the Pak-Afghan border and the situation at the eastern borders.

Indian aggression along the Line of Control (LoC), as well as the Afghan reconciliation process also came under discussion by the military’s top brass.

The forum pledged to carry forward the successes achieved by the security forces to enduring peace and stability in the country, said ISPR.

The 217th edition of the military leadership’s moot comes at a crucial time as a rise is being observed in the anti-Pakistan rhetoric from the Indian politicians, military.

Last week, Pakistan Army soldiers shot at least two quadcopters that attempted to fly into Pakistan from India.

Director-General of ISPR, Major General Asif Ghafoor had said that India threatened Pakistan of surgical strikes but not even a drone could cross Pakistan’s border.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, in an interview to the Turkish state broadcaster had suggested that the heated anti-Pakistan rhetoric was due to India going to general elections soon.

Similarly, the Afghan peace process has entered a new phase as calls to withdraw from Afghanistan are growing louder in the US.

Last week, the US Vice President Mike Pence had said the US President Donald Trump was “evaluating” the pull-out of US forces from Afghanistan.

Reportedly, the Pentagon has been ordered by the US President to slash the number of troops in Afghanistan by 7000 – almost half of the current strength.
