Pak-Afghan border crossing remains sealed at Torkham after twin blasts

JAMRUD: Following the two consecutive blasts injuring six Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel, Pakistan-Afghanistan border crossing at Torkham has remained closed for second consecutive day on Saturday.

According to the security officials, the personnel have been deployed near the border over security concerns.

As result of the twin blasts, six security personnel and two Afghans were injured.

The blasts came a day after Pakistan, Afghanistan, and United States held talks in Kabul and resolved to continue the fight against the common threat of terrorism.

At a tripartite meeting, areas of mutual security interests and concerns were deliberated upon.

The three sides in trilateral talks expressed their commitment to eliminate the militant Islamic State through information sharing, complementary efforts and enhanced cooperation.

In the Pak-Afghan bilateral meeting, important issues linked to cross border fire, attacks, counter-terrorism, coordinated actions on respective side along the border and detainees exchange were discussed.

Both sides agreed to make progress in line with the commitments made at recent high level meetings and formulate an action plan, which will contribute towards improving security along the Pak-Afghan border through enhanced cooperation.

A six member high level Pakistan military delegation headed by DG Military Operations Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza participated in the meetings.
