It has given an ultimatum to residents living near the Torkham border crossing that no one will allowed to cross the border after the deadline which expires today. From 1st June the border will be closed to anyone who does not have a visa and a valid passport.

The move comes as Pakistan tries to secure the border with Afghanistan known as the Durand Line. The border is notorious for the unhindered crossing of people from both sides.

It is estimated that more than 10,000 people cross the border daily with any check and balance. It is also widely that the crossing is responsible for several terrorist activities in the country hatched across the border.

According to sources, the deadline for not allowing anyone to cross the border without any documents has been extended twice on earlier occasions.

After Torkham, all the other border crossing points will be controlled if proper funding is provided and the procedures are properly followed. This will create an effective border management system between the two countries.
