Trump willing to resolve Kashmir dispute, says US State Dept

US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce has said that it wouldn’t be a surprise if US President Donald Trump tried to mediate on the issue of Indian-Occupied Kashmir.

Responding to a question at a press briefing from ARY Bureau Chief about President Trump’s offer to mediate on Kashmir, Bruce said, “Obviously, I can’t speak to what’s on the mind or the plans of the president.”

But she went on to say, “What I do know is that I think we all recognize that President Trump, in each step that he takes, aims to solve generational differences between countries, and generational wars.”

“So, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that he’d want to manage something like that [the Kashmir dispute],” she said.

“He seems very much to be – and not just seems, but he is – the only one who has been able to bring certain people to the table to have conversations that nobody thought were possible,” she remarked.

“While I can’t speak to his plans, the world knows his nature, and I can’t speak to any details of what he might have in that regard. You can call the White House. I have a feeling they would have plenty to say,” Bruce added.

She also mentioned that the US had intervened to bring about a ceasefire in the four-day conflict last month between India and Pakistan.

“It is an exciting time that if we can get to a point in that particular conflict [between India and Pakistan], thank God, but also thank Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Trump, and Vice President JD Vance,” she said, emphasizing US involvement.

When asked about the visit of the Pakistani Parliamentary delegation to D.C., Tammy Bruce said that Under Secretary for Political Affairs Allison Hooker met with the delegation and discussed important bilateral issues, including counterterrorism cooperation.

Regarding a question about Sikh for Justice leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun’s letter to Secretary Rubio regarding actions against Indian agents involved in an assassination attempt, Bruce said she would come back to address this question later.
