The process of hanging death row convicts continues in Pakistan as two more executed in Sargodha and Sahiwal cities of Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Gul Muhammad was executed in Sargodha District Jail. The convict had killed his brother-in-law back in 1999.
Muhammad Hanif who murdered a police officer in 2006 was hanged to death in Sahiwal Central Jail.
Hanif killed ASI (Assistant sub-inspector) Ahsanullah in 2006 during a shootout with police. An Anti-Terrorism Court awarded him death penalty in 2007.
Pakistan lifted the moratorium on death penalty on Dec. 17, a day after Pakistani Taliban gunmen attacked Army Public School in Peshawar and killed 134 students and 19 adults.
The moratorium, in force since 2008, was initially lifted only in terrorism cases.
But the government extended the order in March, directing provincial governments to proceed with hangings for all death row prisoners who have exhausted their appeals and clemency petitions.
