ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police have registered a case against Shayan Ali — a UK-based social media activist — at Ramna Police Station under anti-terror law.
According to the first information report (FIR), activist Shayan Ali harrassed a judicial officer in London and made videos of him.
“An attempt was made to attack a judicial officer, the FIR reads.
“In one video which went viral on social media, Shayan said that he would make the life of the judicial officer hell who was come to a training at an educational institution in the United Kingdom,” the FIR stated.
As per the FIR, YouTuber Adil Farooq Raja was also active online in the episode.
Earlier this month, a clip of Shayan chasing around Islamabad Additional District and Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar, who sentenced former prime minister Imran Khan to three years in prison, went viral on social media.
However, in an official statement, the University of Hull said it has been running human rights and the rule of law training for Pakistani judges since 2014. Participants for the training are selected by their respective High Courts.
The current cohort has been selected by the Islamabad High Court, the Peshawar High Court and the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The University has no role in the selection of judges, the statement read.
The nine-day training is funded by the Commonwealth Secretariat, London and arranged by the University of Hull, UK. Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq nominated him for the training.
