LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Secretary Omar Sarfaraz Cheema on Monday criticised Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz for what he said playing politics over former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s ailment.

“Had the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) been worried about Nawaz Sharif’s health they wouldn’t have done politics,” the PTI leader said in a statement. He said the former prime minister’s refusal to go to hospital was a bid to flee abroad.

Prime Minister Imran Khan got treatment at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital instead of going abroad while the Sharif brothers were afraid of treatment at the hospitals they built during their stint in power, he said.

Cheema said inflation was a result of policies of the PML-N supreme leader and former president Asif Ali Zardari.

Earlier, on March 17, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry had said all the confusion surrounding former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s treatment was caused by his insistence on undergoing treatment in London.

“Nawaz Sharif has an option of entering into a plea bargain with the National Accountability (NAB) to get out of jail in order to be able to go abroad,” he said while addressing a press conference alongside Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid.

Chaudhry said the Sharif family had no trust in the hospitals they had built in Pakistan.
