BENGALURU: A retired Indian army officer and his sons were beaten up in public by residents of the area and some unidentified ‘thugs’ over a so-called property dispute.
According to Hindustan Times, 70-year-old retired Army Colonel R.S. Uppal in Bengaluru has written an emotional appeal to the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee seeking its intervention to protect his family after his wife and sons were allegedly assaulted.
On Wednesday, the letter, addressed to general secretary of the committee Manjinder Singh Sirsa was shared by him via Twitter with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who instructed the police to look into the matter.
The colonel said that his neighbours, who moved in on April 25, and unknown accomplices abused and thrashed his family and did not back down when the police complaint was registered against them, he writes.
Instead, according to the complaint, unknown people were allowed to enter the gated community armed with rods and other weapons and they assaulted Colonel Uppal’s wife and his two sons, one of whom had to undergo a surgery to recover.
He has alleged complicity by the owners’ association, stating that water supply to their house was disconnected on April 28 on the orders of the association’s president.
In the letter, Uppal has also mentioned that they were called ‘Pakistani’. He stated that despite the seriousness of the assault on the family, they were not even being provided its CCTV footage. “There are three cameras on the main road which captured the assault,” he mentioned.
