Violent Afghan protesters storm at Bab-e-Dosti; gate closed

The Bab-e-Dosti has been closed after violent protesters stormed at the border gate on Afghan Independence Day.

Afghans celebrate Independence Day (Yom-e-Istaqlal) on 19 August to commemorate the Anglo-Afghan Treaty of 1919. The treaty had granted a complete neutral relation between Afghanistan and Britain.

The Afghanis carried out rally in reaction of Pakistani citizens’ peaceful protest against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brahamdagh Bugti, a proclaimed traitor and founder leader of the Baloch Republican Party.

Pakistanis’ protest against Modi and Brahamdagh could not be borne by citizens of Afghanistan, who started a rally march from Spin Boldak border area of Afghanistan and ended at Torkhem border.

The protesters pelted stones at the gate to smash glasses of windows and doors. They also burnt a Pakistani flag near border area in disrespect of Pakistan. Afghan security forces were also present on the occasion and did not bother to stop the violent Afghans.

The Bab-e-Dosti has been closed after the violent incident which has suspended commercial activities, NATO supplies and commuting. A large number of trucks and goods containers have lined up near the border since the closure of gate.
