Weather department forecasts rainfall in Karachi today, countrywide wet spell

In an advisory the met department has forecast rain and thundershowers in Karachi on Thursday (today).

A weather advisory of the Meteorological Department has predicted Isolated rain-thundershower in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions in lower Sindh and likely hailstorm during the period.

The department has warned heavy rainfall that may generate urban flooding in major cities and flash flooding in the vulnerable areas of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other areas of the country.

The weather advisory said a well marked low pressure area lies over south-eastern part of Iran and its trough lies over upper parts of Balochistan. A shallow westerly wave is affecting upper parts of Balochistan and likely to persist till Friday. The same weather system will grip upper parts of the country on Friday and likely to persist till Monday.

The advisory forecasts widespread rain-thundersstorm accompanied by strong gusty winds in Balochistan with isolated heavy falls in Quetta, Zhob, Kalat, Sibbi and Naseerabad divisions of the province, while scattered rain-thundershower in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bahawalpur, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sukkur, Larkana divisions and Fata.

Isolated rain-thundershower is also expected in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions in Lower Sindh, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat and Mardan divisions.

The Met Office further warned that rain/thundershower will be accompanied by strong gusty winds of 50-60 knots and isolated hailstorm in Balochistan, KP and Punjab. In Sindh rain or thundershower will be accompanied by dust-storm of 50-60 knots. Heavy downpours may generate urban flooding in major cities and flash flooding in the vulnerable areas of Balochistan, KP, FATA, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rawalpindi divisions and Kashmir.

The fishermen of Balochistan coastal areas carrying small boats have been advised to remain careful.
