Whereabouts of Shehbaz Sharif unknown, says Fawad

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday expressed doubt as to whether Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif will return home from London to face corruption cases against him.

Speaking in ARY News’ Bakhabar Sawera programme, the minister said the whereabouts of Shehbaz Sharif are unknown since he went abroad after being granted permission by the Lahore High Court (LHC) to fly out the country.

Previously, he said, people, including members of the Sharif family, went abroad but didn’t return, adding he doubted that the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) president will return.

About a question with regard to the government’s efforts to extradite former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s sons and former finance minister Ishaq Dar, he said a treaty had been signed with the UK government for exchange of offenders, adding a dedicated unit dealing with Pakistanis’ illegal assets in foreign countries had been working effectively at the PM House.

The government’s efforts in this regard would bear fruit soon, he said.

He said political parties are like institutions and hence, they should not revolve around personalities, advising the PPP and PML-N to come out of the Zardari and Sharif families, respectively and focus on a new narrative.

He questioned why would people come out on streets to save looted money of Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari.
