CHITTAGONG : The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has called back its under 19 cricket team home from the ongoing tour of Bangladesh, following an explosion near the team hotel in Chittagong on Saturday, the strained situation in Bangladesh has left the hosting of ICC T20 World cup and Asia Cup in danger, ARY News reported.
West Indies under-19 cricket team was on the tour of Bangladesh to play 7-matches series, the second match of the ODI series, scheduled to take place on Sunday, was postponed to Monday, following the incident near the hotel.
According to the statement issued by WICB early on Monday morning, the board wants to ship the team out of Chittagong at the earliest.
“The decision taken by the board is just because of preference to security of players”, statement revealed.
The pullout is a blow to Bangladesh’s immediate future as host of the 2014 World Twenty20s to be held in March. But ICC and the BCB are yet to make a statement on the issue.
The tense situation of Bangladesh since October has claimed the lives of more than 70 people.
