Will remain committed to Pak-Iran gas pipeline project: Khaqan Abbasi

ISLAMABAD: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources has said that government is taking some serious measures to overcome energy crisis, ARY News reported.

Answering to queries at Energy crisis conference on Saturday, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that some barriers are still present on Pak-Iran gas pipeline project due to restrictions imposed by U.S and currently government is not a position to get rid of those restrictions.

He said the recent nuclear deal between Iran and world powers would be helpful lifting sanctions on Iran and the project will get extra pace.

He said there is no short cut solution to the energy crisis and added there is a need to work on all fronts to overcome the issue for the country’s socio-economic development.

However, he said the possible short term solution could be the LNG project besides ensuring improvement in the existing infrastructures to achieve more results of activities in the oil and gas sector.

The Minister said that Iran’s gas is 20 per cent cheaper as compare to the current rate of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that Sustainable Development Policy Institute’s
(SDPI) report regarding gas prices is irresponsible step.
