KARACHI: A young cricketer who had played for the under-19 team allegedly committed suicide at his home in Karachi’s Model Colony, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

Muhammad Zaryab, a first-year college student, became disheartened over his exclusion from the team for being above the required age and hanged himself by neck, according to police.

The deceased’s father, Aamer Hanif, who is himself a cricketer, said his son resorted to this extreme act under pressure as he was upset over the attitude of his coaches.

His father went on to say: “What my son has done, or what he faced, I hope no other player has to go through this. He was pressurised too much while playing matches at the U19 level. He was disappointed and left all cricket behind and went into deep depression.”

The deceased cricketer’s father has represented Pakistan in five One Day Internationals.
