Youth shot dead at Lahore sessions court

LAHORE: Unidentified assailants on Saturday gunned down a youth at a Lahore sessions court premises in the city, ARY News reported.

According to details, three assailants riding a motorbike opened fire on a youth, who had come to attend a hearing in a case.

Police officials said the dead has been identified as Bilal Azeem, resident of Mughalpura in Lahore.

Bilal had to appear in the sessions court in a case of free-will marriage, they said.

Taking notice of the incident, Session Judge Shahid Baig has sought a report from police. He said action would be taken against those police officials who were responsible for the negligence.

This is third incident of firing at the session court in recent times. Whenever such an incident takes place police would boost security of the court for some time and then everybody forgot about it.

The Lahore High Court has already given orders to increase the security and not let any irrelevant person enter court premises, however it could not materialise.

In February 2018, at least two lawyers were killed in a firing incident at Lahore sessions court premises.

Police said that the incident of firing occurred after heated argument between lawyers over a property dispute.

As a result, Advocate Rana Nadeem suffered fatal firearm wounds and died on the spot, whereas another lawyer Owais Talib, who also suffered bullet injuries, died later at a hospital.
