LAHORE: The Supreme Court on Saturday disposed of a suo motu case pertaining to the rape and murder of little Zainab in Kasur and directed the trial court to decide the case within seven days.

Headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, the three-judge bench heard the case at the apex court’s Lahore registry.

Inspector General of Punjab Police Arif Nawaz Khan apprised the three member bench that a charge-sheet against accused Imran Ali had been submitted in an anti-terrorism court in Lahore.

The chief justice said if anyone had a complaint regarding the Zainab murder case, he can submit his application to the court.

He directed the ATC to conclude the case within seven days in compliance with the Lahore High Court verdict in this regard.

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court provided a copy of a charge-sheet to the prime suspect in the case and set Feb 12 for his indictment.

ATC judge Sajjad Ahmed formally commenced trial of the suspected rapist and murderer of the minor girl today inside the Kot Lakhpat Jail.

A deputy prosecutor said the trial court will conduct the hearing of the case on day-to-day basis. A prosecution team comprising four prosecutors will plead the case on behalf of the state, he added.

The prosecutor said the ATC judge would frame charges against the accused on Monday (Feb 12).
