Zardari decries dual standard in arrest of Sharjeel, Sharif

PESHAWAR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari decried dual standards in the arrest of his aide and former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Memon and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

“Sharjeel was brought back to Pakistan and arrested, while Sharif is cozying up in London,” he said addressing party workers in Peshawar. “The lion is now hiding like a cat.”

“Nawaz Sharif receives bail, why are there who types of laws,” he asked decrying that Maryam Nawaz arrives to the accountability court in a cavalcade of forty cars.

“I was first arrested and then a case was found against me,” he said reminding that former president Ghulam Ishaq filed eleven cases against him which he fought in all cities and was vindicated.

“These inept politicians cannot bear the heat of the jails,” he said.

Zardari also strongly lashed at PTI chairman Imran Khan saying he has not programme rather than criticising while the claims of development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are a sham.

“He calls himself Niazi when he forms a company, and changes to Khan during critics and politics,” he said questioning Imran’s source of income and saying that those infamous for their tales cannot bring a new Pakistan.

“I have visited the province. There is nothing built except for a bridge,” he said. “All the other projects were built during our era or are federal projects.”

Referring to the case in which the Election Commission of Pakistan disposed contempt proceding, he said “Khan knows nothing except for criticising others. Now he is sending apology notes.”

He said the PPP maintain electricity prices despite high petrol prices, while the federal government has indebted the nation which would eventually have to be repaid.

“During our era, we got loans from China which he repaid,” he claimed adding that PPP signed free-trade agreements with several countries.

He said that this is the era of information technology, and media channels and journalists cannot hide the truth as people are well-informed nowadays.

He said that he sees a bright future for PPP, and have formed a programme to strengthen the agro-economy in the country.

“Nawaz Sharif wants to weaken Pakistan economically,” he said Pakistan would default and head to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which would impose stict taxes. “This way Sharif want to control the army,” he said.

He vowed that the PPP would provide students cards to graduates and provide them stipends, and more importantly strength the stitching sector to empower the women in the country.
