Ziauddin University awards 383 degrees at convocation

KARACHI: Ziauddin University awarded 383 degrees to graduating students of various disciplines at the 14th convocation on Thursday.

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, addressing the convocation as chief guest, congratulated the graduating students and their families, and acknowledged that their success and accomplishment is a source of pride not only to them but also to their university the country.

“The spirit that has inspired their achievements illustrates their dynamism, vitality and enthusiasm and we all are inspired by their success.”

CM Sindh motivated the graduates as power of youth in the country and said they are the stewards of this nation and custodian of very rich tradition of antiquity with modernisation.

“As we march towards becoming a developed nation, your role as youth of the country, become increasingly important,” he said.

He expressed full confidence and advised the students to strive hard not only to achieve their goals but also make this country a better living place.

He complimented the pioneers of Ziauddin University and stated that quality education provided in various professional fields is highly commendable.

Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman Higher Education Commission, emphasised that students should struggle to make a knowledge based society, which is considered crucial for sustainable development in the country.

He said that he believes that education can be the change factor for this nation and the students can be the change makers.

Dr. Asim Hussain, Chancellor Ziauddin University, said that today is the moment to celebrate and honor the effort and accomplishment of the students and those who have taught and nourished them.

“I invite you to continue your association with Ziauddin to which you have devoted so much time, hard work and energy”, he said while wishing students success in their future endeavors.

He congratulated the degree holders for working hard to enhance their academic skills and leadership qualities, and their parents for contributing to their education.

In his message, Dr Asim Hussain said the basic principle of a constitution in a country is equitable justice, freedom of thought and speech as permissible by law, respect of honor and dignity of man.

“If these basic principles and rights are trampled then we see emergence of a civil society with no moral values as we see emerging today,” he asserted.

Earlier, Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor of Ziauddin University in his welcome address informed 383 students will be conferred degrees at this convocation.

He said that more than 2,000 students have graduated from Ziauddin University since inception, and were doing well in serving the nation and abroad.

He emphasized that innovative changes are taking place at a fast pace and students have to keep abreast of them. He advised them to seek more knowledge, abide by professional ethics, speak truthfully, and practice their profession without prejudice for religion, nationality, race, political or social standing.

The university awarded Sir Ziauddin Ahmed Academic Excellence gold medals to the nine top position holders. The medal recipients included Muhammad Shariq (Dental Surgery), Taliya Karim (Bio Medical), Mirza Omer Baig (Media Sciences), Aiesha (Medical Technology), Zinnia Mohsin (Speech Language Therapy), Hina Murad (Generic), Zoya Jabeen (Physical Therapy), Hareem Arif (MBBS) and Urooj Sheikh (Pharm.D).
