Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, who failed to meet the PTI members earlier today, did not hold back from elaborating his stance before the media. He said that he is here as the Speaker of the National Assembly, not as a representative of the government and the constitution demands him to verify the resignations of the members.
Sadiq said it is his duty to verify that a resignation is voluntarily submitted and so for he tried to proceed the matter with transparency.
He told that he had asked Shah Mehmood Qureshi to bring all the PTI members on same day; however the confirmation will be carried out individually.
The Speaker however expressed ignorance as to why did the PTI members insist on endorsing the resignations collectively.
He added that now the only way out is to inform the ECP about the entire matter.
After him, the Deputy Speaker, Murtaza Abbasi strongly criticized the PTI members saying that they were attending the meetings of all the standing committees, using government vehicles besides other incentives, while according to them they had also stepped down from their assembly membership.
To some analysts, the decision of not accepting the resignations and delaying the matter seems to be part of strategy to keep a way opened for talks with the defiant PTI.
