Journalists protest attacks on ‘free media’

KARACHI: Journalist fraternity on Saturday strongly protested against yesterday’s attacks on media outlets and personnel by the activists of religious parties, ARY News reported.

Demonstrations were held in different cities across the country against manhandling of media persons by workers of different religious parties and attacks on offices of news channels, and press clubs on Friday.

On the call for protest by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), a large number of news men and representatives from various journalist bodies staged demonstrations against attacks on ‘free media’ by mobsters that left nearly half a dozen media men wounded, vehicles and property damaged in Karachi, Lahore and Hyderabad.

Representatives of journalist bodies demanded government to take action against the perpetrators and to provide fool-proof security to media houses.

They warned of a long march and laying siege to the Parliament House if the government did not security to media workers.
